How do you size a flush mount ceiling light? ›

For flush ceiling lights or semi flush ceiling lights, measure the length and width of the room you want to light and convert this number to inches by adding them together to find the ideal width of a ceiling mount. For example, a 12-inch wide ceiling mount would be ideal for a 6x6 foot room.

The Difference Between Flush Mount and Semi-Flush Mount

Many flush-mount fixtures have simple, minimalist designs and tend to blend in with any existing decor. A semi-flush mount light has a center stem that lowers the light bulbs roughly 4 to 8 inches below the ceiling.
